Zayar Thaw, a prominent hip hop musician and member of the Generation Wave Youth Activist Group, has been released after three years in prison. The 31-year-old hip-hop singer arrived back at his home in Yangon on 17 May 2011 from Kwaut Thaung Prison. Following the September 2007 uprising, he co-founded with three other activists an organization called Generation Wave, a youth movement that called for change. In 2008, he was sentenced to six years in prison for unlawful association and violating the foreign exchange act.
